HNT Gordon & Co. Classic Planemakers Australia
This Jack Plane (also known as a scrub plane) has a higher blade angle of 55 degrees for planing hard, cranky timbers. Alternate use as a 85 degree cabinet scraper by reversing the blade. Designed to remove lots of wood fast, in preparation for a trying Plane.
This Gidgee Aussie Jack plane is 300mm long x 67mm wide x 38mm high. Weighs 1.3Kg and has the option of a 50mm wide x 6mm thick x 97mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64, or a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
Made from Gidgee, with the Knob and tote handle superbly shaped by Ross Burgess.
Used for dressing rough sawn boards to the point where a trying plane can take over. This plane has no brass insert in the mouth as it is not required for the task it performs.
