If you don't have a mechanical jointer to dress your boards, a jack plane/scrub plane is the ideal tool for taking a rough sawn board to the point where it can be dressed with a trying plane to achieve a flat surface.
The plane comes with the blade sharp ready to use, however it is sharpened as a smoothing plane blade incase you wish to use it as a smoothing plane. If you would like to use it as a scrub plane to remove material quickly, then we recommend putting a camber in your blade.
It has a blade angle of 55 degrees for planing hard, cranky timbers. Alternate use as a 85 degree cabinet scraper by reversing the blade. It is 300mm long x 67mm wide x 38mm high. Weighs 1.3Kg and has the option of a 50mm wide x 6mm thick x 97mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64, or a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
This plane has no brass insert in the mouth as it is not required for the task it performs.
Perfect for general planing!
This is a very well made hand plane that functions exactly as intended. Much better for general planing than the high-end iron equivalent thanks to the lower weight. It's fantastic to own something like this and a real pleasure to use.
Pure Gidgee gold
An absolute pleasure to use straight out of the box. Setup and adjustment are very intuitive and the blade comes razor sharp and ready to use. Easily my favourite tool, possibly my favourite object.
HNT Jack Plane
This is my most favourite plane in my arsenal! It has a great feel and gets down to business with little to no fuss. It removes material in a considerate yet commanding way. The sole moves effortlessly across all timbers I have worked with so far including one piece that could only be described as semi fossilised fence post. I actually look for reasons to use my jack plane I like it that much.
