1" Shoulder Plane
This 1 inch gidgee shoulder plane is built for accurate joinery clean up when you want a wider registration surface and a little more mass in the hand. It is ideal for trimming tenon shoulders and tenon tongues across the grain, and for tuning rebates with the grain, especially when you are working to a tight fit.
The 60 degree blade pitch keeps the cut controlled on hard, cranky timbers. When the grain gets stubborn, reverse the blade bevel up and the plane converts to a scraper with a 90 degree scraping action.

Bought my hnt shoulder plane 22 years ago at the Melbourne working with timber and wood show. Not used often due to the type of work I have been doing, but pulled it out today to make mortise and tenon joints on a new dining table. I had forgotten how enjoyable hand tools are and in particular my favourite plane.

The 1” shoulder plane is a great tool. I use it in making moldings in lieu of a rebate plane. Very easy to adjust and nomproblem in swithching back and forth between a heavy cut and a light cut. I hope the ****** politicians in Australia (and the ****** people who voted for them) don’t let all the Gidgee trees on the continent burn down.
