If you don't have a mechanical jointer to dress your boards, a jack plane/scrub plane is the ideal tool for taking a rough sawn board to the point where it can be dressed with a trying plane to achieve a flat surface.
The plane comes with the blade sharp ready to use, however it is sharpened as a smoothing plane blade incase you wish to use it as a smoothing plane. If you would like to use it as a scrub plane to remove material quickly, then we recommend putting a camber in your blade.
It has a blade angle of 55 degrees for planing hard, cranky timbers. Alternate use as a 85 degree cabinet scraper by reversing the blade. It is 300mm long x 67mm wide x 38mm high. Weighs 1.3Kg and has the option of a 50mm wide x 6mm thick x 97mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64, or a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
This plane has no brass insert in the mouth as it is not required for the task it performs.
