This 1 1/4 inch gidgee shoulder plane is built for bigger joinery where you want maximum control and a wide, stable registration surface. It is ideal for cleaning up the shoulders of large tenons and tenon tongues across the grain, and for tuning rebates with the grain when the fit has to be spot on.
The 60 degree blade pitch helps it stay composed on hard Australian hardwoods. When the grain simply will not plane cleanly, reverse the blade bevel up and the plane converts to a scraper with a 90 degree scraping action, which is often the cleanest way through cranky timber.
