Specialty Brazilian Rose Wood Set
This set of Brazilian Rosewood planes consist of a small curved sole spoke shave, a large flat sole spoke shave and a 1" Shoulder plane. This timber is very rare now and we can only sell this within Australia. This timber was purchased pre-ban.
Small spoke shave Specifications:
This small curved sole Spoke Shave is 235 long x 12mm wide x 12mm high. Weighs 90 grams and has a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The
It has a 60 degrees blade angle for planing and by reversing the blade (bevel up) it will perform as a scraper for use of hard cranky woods. The sole has a radius of 3/8" and is all brass.
Used for shaping and fine finishing of very tight inside curves that you find in Lutherie and furniture making. It can also be used for flats and outside curves or a combination thereof.
Large Flat Spoke Shave Specifications:
This flat sole Spoke Shave is 280mm long x 24 mm wide x 24 mm high. Weighs 0.5 Kg and has a 45mm wide x 1.6mm thick x 34mm long High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
It has a 55 degrees blade angle for planing and by reversing the blade (bevel up) it will perform as a scraper for use of hard cranky woods. The mouth is protected by a brass sole.
Fine finishing of outside curve work or profiling straight pieces of wood into ovals, rounds etc such as a spoke.
1" Shoulder Plane Specifications:
This 1" Shoulder Plane is 198mm long x 1" wide x 60mm high.
Weighs 0.8 Kg and has a 3/16" thick x 1" wide Tool steel blade hardened to Rc 62-64.
It has a 60 degrees blade angle for planing or 90 degrees for scraping. Used for the clean up the shoulders of tenons and tenon tongues across the grain or a rebate with the grain. Can reverse the blade for use as a scraper on cranky grain.
