Block Plane

$342.00 AUD
Blade Type

This block plane has a higher blade pitch of 55 degrees - being optimised for hard, cranky timber, however it works equally as well on softer woods. You can also reverse the blade to create a 85 degree cabinet scraper, which gets you out of trouble when working with really hard cranky woods that can't be planed. Used for general purpose planing or trimming of any small pieces of timber, particularly hardwood and end grain. Easily used in one hand.

This Gidgee Block plane is 175mm long x 54mm wide x 38mm high. Weighs 0 .8Kg and has the option of a 1. 1/2" wide x 1/8" thick x 81mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64 OR a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on cranky woods.  Knob handle superbly shaped by Ross Burgess.

Awesome Tool

This block plane is a joy to use. I bit larger than a traditional metal block plane, and i personally struggle to use one handed, but it super awesome as a small smoother which was my intended use for it (with the scraping function for reversing grain). Highly recommend.

Block plane review

Fantastic. It took 3 taps of the blade to have it set up to produce uniform shavings of approx. 0.1 mm thickness. I haven't needed to adjust it yet. This is how all planes should work. It makes planing of timber a hobby.

Block plane

Of all of my 4 HNT Gordon planes, the block is the only one that I personally don’t really like. I find it too close in size to the smoothing plane which I use in preference and find more versatile.
