Tilting Vice Jaw

$186.00 AUD

Our tilting vice jaw is designed to enhance your pattern makers or front vice, by allowing you to hold a vast array of shapes including wedges, tapers and double tapers. These objects can be large or small.

The jaw is 150mm long x 50mm wide, and the brass dog will fit into a 1/2" hole that is 1/2" deep. The jaw will tilt to 16 degrees in any direction, giving it vast capabilities.

The jaw rotates on a brass knuckle, and the tension on the brass knuckle can be adjusted by simply loosening two grub screws and tightening the threaded knuckle cap, and then re tightening the grub screws (see photo 3).

The tilting jaw can be used in the back jaw of the pattern makers vice, which has two 1/2" holes to accept the brass dog. The tilting jaw can also be used with your HNT Gordon front vice to significantly enhance its capabilities. You can do this by simply drilling a 1/2" hole in the side of your bench which you use as your back jaw.  Make sure you only drill your hole to a maximum of 1/2" deep.

The jaw comes with a cork/rubber liner to glue onto the jaw for better work holding when dealing with timber that is not quite parallel. The liner is cut slightly oversized to allow you to trim the edges once it has been glued. We use contact adhesive glue to attach it onto the jaw. You can get this in spray cans or wipe on form. Thickness of the cork/rubber liner is 1.5mm.

New Pattern Makers Vise

I installed it and only clamped up two, wedge shaped, pieces of wood so far. Works well. The cork gasket material slipped off the tilting jaw. I only sprayed contact cement on the cork. Next time I'll apply it to both the gasket and the jaw. I installed the vise a little below the top of the workbench ~0.5 mm lower,Thinking I'd leave some room for future flattening of the bench top. That hit the max it can be dropped and still clear the bench top while in the horizontal position, dumb luck on my part. I think i need to clear more wood from the under side of the bench top because I suspect the vise is not quite square to the bench top surface. Tried to reduce the removal of wood under there and it's cost me a little more work messing with clearance.
