Specialty Ringed Gidgee 1" Shoulder Plane
This stunning Ringed Gidgee shoulder plane is used to clean up the shoulders of tenons and tenon tongues across the grain or a rebate with the grain.
It is 198mm long x 1" wide x 60mm high. Weighs 0.8 Kg and has a 3/16" thick x 1" wide Tool steel blade hardened to Rc 62-64.
It has a 60 degrees blade angle for planing or 90 degrees for scraping hard/cranky grain (by reversing the blade to bevel up).

I had the opportunity to use and test this plane back to back with both Veritas and Clifton over an extended time, they all cut well but the HNT Gordon was the most comfortable and agreeable to being used with different hand positions and orientation. Adjustment is easy to learn. It doesn’t hurt that it is also a looker and holding a timber plane makes you realise how cold and lifeless steel planes are.
