Specialty Bull Oak A55 Trying Plane

$675.00 AUD

This Bull Oak A55 Trying Plane (alternatively known as a jointer or jointing plane) has an adjustable blade set at 55 degrees - which excels on hard, cranky woods. Alternative use as a 85 degree cabinet scraper by reversing the blade. Used for smoothing long surfaces, and jointing long boards.

This Gidgee A55 trying plane is 460mm long x 67mm wide x 41mm high. Weighs 1.9Kg and has the option of a 50mm wide x 6mm thick x 101mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64 or a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the plane to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.

For adjustment there is a fine thread screw with lateral movement (10th of a turn gives meaningful change in depth). The mouth is protected by a brass rub plate. Knob and tote handle superbly shaped by Ross Burgess.

A cabinet makers work horse.
