The HNT Gordon 1" Shoulder Plane Kit is designed for woodworkers who enjoy making, shaping and tuning their own hand tools.

This kit gives you the opportunity to complete a traditional wooden shoulder plane and turn it into a fully functional tool for accurate shoulder, rebate and fine joinery work. It is a rewarding project for anyone who wants to better understand how a wooden hand plane works, while creating a tool that can become a regular part of the workshop.

The 1" Shoulder Plane is a versatile and practical size for general joinery. The wider blade gives you a little more coverage than the smaller shoulder plane sizes, making it ideal for cleaning up broader tenons, refining shoulders, trimming rebates, adjusting joinery and making controlled, accurate cuts where precision matters.

Each kit provides the essential components required to complete the plane. The final shaping, fitting, finishing, sharpening and tuning are completed by you, giving you hands-on experience with the same principles of plane geometry and adjustment used in our finished HNT Gordon hand planes.

A step-by-step instructional video with Terry Gordon is available to guide you through the process of completing the kit, from preparing the wooden body and fitting the wedge through to sharpening, tuning and testing the finished plane.
