Large Flat Sole Spoke Shave - Ringed Yarran
Ringed Yarran (Acacia homalophylla) is a rare and beautifully figured Australian hardwood known for its tight growth rings and rich chocolate to purplish-brown heartwood, often streaked with darker lines. It’s extremely dense, hard, and stable, making it ideal for fine toolmaking, knife handles, and ornamental work. Takes a superb polish and holds detail exceptionally well.
This Flat sole Spoke Shave is 280mm long x 25 mm wide x 22 mm high. Weighs 0.5 Kg and has a 45mm wide x 1.6mm thick x 34mm long Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64 OR a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the blade to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
It has a 55 degrees blade pitch for planing, and by reversing the blade to bevel up it will perform as a scraper for use of hard cranky woods. The mouth is protected by a brass sole.
